1.14.21 Prayer Focus: Our Church

Today, let's take some time to pray specifically for our church family. The Apostle Paul’s love for the local church can be seen in the many prayers he prayed for them. Below are listed several prayers of Paul for the local churches in various cities in the first century.

Take a moment to read through these biblical prayers and use them as a guide while praying for your brothers and sisters in Christ here at Crossway.

Pray that our church would be filled with joy, peace, and hope from God

Rom. 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

Pray that our church would experience God’s comfort in affliction

2 Thess. 2:16 – Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Pray that our church would grow in love and holiness

1 Thess. 3:12-13 – “and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.”

Pray that our church would live in harmony for the glory of God

Rom. 15:5-6 – “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Pray that our church would experience strength from the Holy Spirit and comprehension of Christ’s love

Ephesians 3:16-19 – “that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Pray that God would open doors for effective ministry for our church

Col. 4:3-4 – “At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ.”
